James Lyon a son of William Lyon was born in Kentucky. It is believed that he had a brother, Peter Lyon who was a soldier in the War of 1812. Family Bible notes say that the only brother of James Lyon was Robert L. Lyon who died on September 10, 1843 in his 31st year, making him being born 3 years after his brother James. William Lyon, the father of James died in August of 1826 in Lauderdale County, Alabama. It is believed that William Lyon was a Revolutionary War Soldier. James was born on October 1, 1809, the 1850 federal census states he was born in Kentucky.
James Lyon married Louisa Olive Hannah Gunn on the 17th of December 1834. Louisa was the daughter of Radford and Sylvia Read Gunn. Louisa died May 20, 1852 in the 35th year of age and is buriedin the Old Aberdeen Cemetery in Aberdeen, Mississippi.

Virginai F. J. Lyon, born 27 May 1837, in Alabama, died 8 September 1858Sylvia C. Lyon, born 11 September 1839, in Alabama
Robert Newton Lyon, born 13 September 1841, in Alabama. Robert N. Lyon was mustered into the Confederate Army on 19 March 1861, at Houston, MS, in the Chickasaw Guards, Company H, 11th Mississippi Regiment, at the age of 21 (20) and was appointed 3rd Corporal on 25 April 1861. He was wounded at the battle of "Seven Pines" on May 31, 1862. Robert N. Lyon was severely wounded at Gettysburg on 3 July 1863 and died of those wounds at Gettysburg on July 15, 1863.
William Stillar Lyon, born 9 June 1843, in Alabama, died 31 January 1855.
James Lawrence Lyon, born 18 January 1846, in Monroe County, Mississippi. He married Julia Clementine McGuire in November of 1872. James L. Lyon, CSA was wounded at the 2nd Manassas and severely wounded at Gettysburg during "Picketts' Charge" shrapnel in the left leg and loss of his left arm. James L. Lyon died on June 17, 1924 after serving as a lawyer, postmaster, and judge.
Thomas J. Lyon, born 30 May 1848, in Monroe County, Mississippi. He died January 18, 1868.
Louisa L. Lyon, born 22 August 1850, in Monroe County, Mississippi. She married Jesse James Anderson on the 28th day of December 1871. Louisa died March 29, 1889.
